Aside from the obvious benefit of making your meals even tastier, chutneys have a huge number of other benefits too. Choose natural ingredients with the right properties, and you can use chutneys to stimulate digestion and make your meal even easier to accommodate. They are a great complement to a balanced (tridoshic) meal where different diners have different dietary needs: simply prepare a basic, balancing meal and add different dosha-regulating chutneys for each person. Perfect.

Different herbs, spices and other ingredients all have different nurturing properties, which can be combined in a range of ways to help to nourish the body where it needs it the most.

To enkindle digestion, prevent bloating and cramps and for irregular digestion:

  • 1 inch of fresh ginger
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • A pinch of rock salt

To enkindle digestion, reduce acidity and for sharp digestion:

  • 1 inch of fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp of mint
  • 1 tbsp of coriander

To enkindle digestion and prevent indigestion:

  • 4 tsbp of roasted desiccated coconut
  • The juice of half a lime
  • 1 inch of fresh ginger
  • A pinch of rock salt

To enkindle digestion and prevent sluggishness:

  • 1 tbsp of fresh horseradish
  • ¼ tsp of dry ginger
  • 1 tsp of fresh rosemary
